About Us
The Kambashu Institute is a Permaculture learning centre. Permaculture is ‘a system of design that provides all of the needs for humanity in a way that benefits the environment’. The first Permaculture principle is ‘observe and interact’ and we work with that a lot. Permaculture is also about closing cycles and using what you have – so it is a fitting approach for people who do not have money.

7 Trainers
Our trainers all live in the informal settlements. They run our courses and they support food circle growers in their ‘buddy’ area. The success of the Kambashu Institute belongs to them.
3 Kitchen Team
No course without a delicious meal! Our kitchen team makes sure that no one needs to learn on an empty stomach.
1 Director
With a career in running communication companies in Germany as CEO and COO, followed by a decade of spinning narratives internationally in the environmental policy space, Ina Wilkie decided to take her energy and experience to grassroots level. She founded the Kambashu Institute in 2021.
Meet the Star Club – over 200 Food Circle Growers
We log every food circle that has been growing for more than half a year with satellite data and we have the contact details of the respective food circle growers – they are our Star Club and we work with them on a regular basis.
World Future Council
The Kambashu Institute is part of the Agroecology work of the World Future Council. Agroecology is an internationally recognized transition pathway towards sustainable and resilient food systems.
The World Future Council identifies and promotes policy solutions to protect ecosystems and livelihoods – contributing to ending hunger and malnutrition, promoting sustainable stewardship of natural resources and policies based on ecological principles.
Himalayan Agroecology Initiative
Together with IFOAM – Organics International the World Future Council coordinates the Himalayan Agroecology Initiative. This project works closely with governments and a broad group of stakeholders in the Himalayan region to promote the development and implementation of three comprehensive roadmaps for agroecological food systems in India, Nepal and Bhutan.

‘If you are doing the right thing for the earth, she’s giving you great company.’
– Prof. Dr. Vandana Shiva, Councillor of the World Future Council
